Good Samaritan Day
Every year this annual holiday falls on March 13 th.
This day is in honor of Catherine “Kitty” Genovese. A 28 year old woman living in Queens, NY who was brutally stabbed to death on March 13, 1964.
While Catherine was walking to her apartment a man grabbed her and stabbed her. She screamed for help. While the lights in the surrounding brownstones came on, voices from the opened windows yelled down to the man to “leave that girl alone” no one ever called the police. The man left scared, but returned for a second time to finish his stabbings. Again, he heard a neighbor yelling and left again, still no call to the police from any of the neighbors. He returned for a third time, fatally stabbing Catherine. A half hour passed before anyone called the police.
It was estimated that 38 people saw this man stabbing Catherine and no one called the police or got involved.
So please help someone in need today. Remember to help the animals too.
