The American Crossword Puzzle Tournament is held annually. The 35th event will be held March 16-18, 2012 at the New York Marriott at the Brooklyn Bridge in Brooklyn, New York.
The tournament was founded by Will Shortz in 1978, who still directs the tournament today. He is a creator of crossword puzzles and is currently the New York Times crossword puzzle editor.
There are eight original crosswords created and edited especially for this tournament. Scoring is based on speed and accuracy, with prizes awarded in more than 20 categories, including a $5,000 grand prize.
